Computer hackers are almost always celebrated, whether they fall in the ‘black’ or ‘white’ side of the law.In our hit-list, we are presenting the 10 most famous people, which can be described as a hacker. They entered either in computer or telephone systems and used these systems according to their own wishes, due to their knowledge and technical skills.

1.Kevin Mitnick


Kevin David Mitnick is an American computer security consultant, author and hacker, best known for his high-profile 1995 arrest and later five years in prison for various computer and communications-related crimes. he stole millions of dollars of corporate secrets from IBM, Motorola, telecom companies and even the National Defense warning system until American government offered him a job which he deserves.

2.Vladimir Levin


Vladimir Levin a biochemistry graduate of St. Petersburg's Tekhnologichesky University in mathematics, led a Russian hacker group in the first publicly revealed international bank robbery over a network.He was convicted and sentenced to three years in jail, and ordered to pay Citibank $240,015.

3.Mathew Bevan


In 1996 he was arrested for hacking into secure U.S. government networks At the age of 21, he hacked into the files of the Griffiss Air Force Base Research Laboratory in New York.He was one of two hackers said to have nearly started a third world war. according to Supervisory Special Agent Jim Christy .

4.Michael Calce a.k.a MafiaBoy


Michael Calce, a Canadian Hacker was responsible for a series of high profile cyber attacks in 2000. In 2001, he was sentenced to eight months of open custody, restricted use of the Internet. Michael was only in high school at the time.

5.Adrian Lamo


He was known as the "Homeless Hacker" because of his habit of using coffee shops and libraries as his command centers.Adrian Lamo is best-known for hacking into major cooperation’s like Yahoo, Bank of America, Citigroup, The New York Times and Microsoft,While he caught up hacking "Times" in 2002.He surrendered  and negotiated a plea bargain that gave him six months of house arrest, and he avoided serving jail time.

6.Jeanson James Ancheta


He became the first hacker to be charged with controlling an army of hijacked computers called botnets rxbat. Which is acomputer worm that can spread his net of infected computers which gave him control to 500,000 computers including US military computers. Later he was forced pay more than $58,000 and serve 60 months in prison.

7.Gary Mckinnon


Gary Mckinnon a.ka Solo is a Scottish hacker who masterminded the largest military computer hack of all time. Gary McKinnon hacked nearly 100 American military and NASA servers from February 2001 to March 2002.He taunted the military while he was at it, posting this message to their website: “Your security system is crap. I am Solo. I will continue to disrupt at the highest levels.” totally badass right. Once he  said his main inspiration for the attack was The Hacker's Handbook by Hugo Cornwall. No he lives in Britain. 

8.Owen Walker

Owen Walker aka AKILL was only 17 when he let in an international hacking group that cause over 26 million dollars in damages.since he only wrote the code that the other members in the network used to steal the money. He pleaded guilty, wasn't convicted, and only had to payback $11,000. The school teenager was responsible for creating the Bot virus which spread into 1.3 million computers around the world crashing them.


The hacker named Astra was  never publicly identified, but is said to have been a 58 year old mathematician when he was arrested in 2008 in Greece.  He  was active between 2002 and 2008 during that five year period.He stole weapons technology information about the company's jet fighters and other military aircraft, and sold it to different countries.

10.Albert Gonzalez 

He founded Shadowcrew.com . Members of the site could buy or sell stolen bank account numbers or fake passports, drivers’ licenses, Social Security cards, credit cards, debit cards, birth certificates etc etc .Over a two year period he stole a total of 175 million credit card numbers selling them online. Later He was sentenced to 40 years jail.
